Frieden

skin + cbd

Pronounced (ˈfri•d(ə)n/). This exploration was my capstone project for my Senior Theses that dove into the world of CBD & skincare. This theoretical skincare exploration was developed with research into German strains of marijuana and the cannabidiol compound in mind; Frieden is the German word for “peace”. Case study is a WIP–this was a huuuuge project!

Client: Senior Capstone
Website: instagram.com
Theses: Appendix

Type Development

Frieden was designed to be a brand that had a happy, encouraging visual language but also provided products that were potent and could get the job done. It was really important to me that while the font maintained a strength to stand alone it also had some personality, too. To juxtapose the bright colors and organic patterns in the packaging of Frieden, I developed a blockletter that is semi-industrial and very rigid.

CBD x Skincare

Through my research, I discovered that in a world of fast fixes and reactive remedies, visual communication has influenced consumers to be more thoughtful with their purchases. Thanks in part to social media and explosive advertising, consumers are stepping out of their traditional brand loyalty in hopes of having new results with the next big thing, in this case, Frieden.

Capitalizing on this ideology, this project exploration was intended to unite the consumers’ need to stay “on trend” with the influence of packaging design, ultimately creating a brand that de-stigmatizes the use of Cannabidiol as a household remedy.

Frieden Store

As the final step to completing my Capstone, we were given a reserved space in our Art + Design gallery space to put all our hard work on display. Since I was doing a project that required an interactive product, I wanted to create a space that felt inviting, colorful, and most of all, encouraged touching and using the products that I had created. *Disclaimer* since this was in Mississippi, there was no actual CBD present at the show. 🙂

Frieden’s IG is really real so check it out here!
